"MOUNTAIN WOLVES":

"The true breeder is not the one who lives by his dogs, is the one who lives for his dogs."

The story of a Family

“Mountain Wolves” was the kennel registration at FCA. But a name by itself does nothing or says nothing, what would really give it value would be what would be represented by that name.

The name "Mountain Wolves" encompasses more than breeding plans and breeding dogs, and is far from simply the name of a dog kennel. Mountain Wolves is the story of a family, a story that breeds generations born at home and chasing an idea with a tipe of dogs and a bloodline, but also chasing a lifestyle; yes, an authentic and original lifestyle.

The story Mountain Wolves refers to a teenager's dream of living in the mountains with her large pack of dogs. The process took many years, but I didn't start it alone: the dogs were always with me, the path was shared, every step and every footprint, every good and bad experience, every event that took us to the place where we are now and made us what we are. This was a joint effort, side by side with the dogs, so the credit will always go to the pack.

It was no longer just my dream, it became something more. So I understood that the whole process really became the story of the members of a family, the Mountain Wolves family.

We are mountain people

Every family history is marked by a place: Mendoza. Many speak of this province as “The land of sun and good wine”, but, in my opinion and as a good Mendoza native, I believe that the most incredible thing this valley has are its mountains. In fact, the highest in all of America. Living on the Cordillera and enjoying it to the full, in its four seasons, defined the place where our home would be. Not so far from the city, not so far from the nature that gives us so much to enjoy.

We are located in a beautiful little mountain town called by the locals as “Colonia Suiza”, in the department of Luján de Cuyo. The environment surrounds us with well-known hills that we can observe from our property, morning, afternoon and night. The Cacheuta range, Commission hill, Camello hill, the Tupungato Volcano, among others, and between which the Mendoza River runs. Just 10 kilometers away, traveling along Route 82, is one of our favorite places: El Dique Potrerillos. Surrounded by mountains and bordering the majestic Cordón del Plata. Place where many of our adventures occur.

The pack and family ties

We have a large property where the dogs enjoy their daily lives with freedom. Since the place could be very large, but if the animals cannot move freely or live enclosed in kennels, the space would be ussless. Although we have comfortable "kennels", we only use them at certain times when, for the safety of the animals, it's better that dogs remain enclosed and controlled.

One of the peculiarities that I love about this breed is the fact of being able to live with the pack and work with it, which is why the dogs must spend most of their time in freedom and together, living together just like their ancestors, the wolves, and not locked in kennels. You really feel a family energy, ties that unite us all for something more than the “dog-owner” relationship. The pack is everything, and its balance depends exclusively on the leader in charge.

Being the alpha of such a large pack encompasses much more than the work of a dog breeder (which in itself is no small feat), it also implies having knowledge about animal behavior and canine ethology, and being able to carry it out. You cannot raise, work and live with animals you do not know or cannot handle. The demand is constant, it is daily, every hour and every day. As in nature, the herd depends on its leaders: if they are weak, the herd becomes disorganized and does not survive.

This wonderful breed allows pack work, and very little use of kennels. Dog breeding is lived to the surface and enjoyed in an ancestral and genuine way, in each of its stages, in fact connecting our human part with wild nature and its laws.

And because of all this, you can understand that I cannot imagine a parallel life without my dogs. That is why everything I enjoy in life are activities and outings that I always share with dogs.

I was born in Mendoza and understood the true greatness of nature when observing the gigantic and majestic Andes Mountains. There is so much to enjoy and do here, so living with dogs on a mountain property isn't enough. The idea of taking them out of the house and having them live these adventures with me is part of this great lifestyle. Shared experiences and warm moments are part of our history and strengthen the family ties of the pack.
